Chasing Dreams: Video Charts Hall's Golf Journey
Georgia Hall’s journey in golf from junior member to major champion is featured in an inspiring new video from The R&A.
The 23-year-old, who is an ambassador for The R&A’s drive to encourage more women, girls and families into playing golf, talks openly in the 14-minute feature about her career and her drive to fulfil her childhood dreams.
The video charts Hall’s journey from first getting into golf at a local driving range as a 7-year-old, joining Ferndown Golf Club near her hometown of Bournemouth and achieving a 10 handicap when still only 10 years old.
It also features her impressive amateur career, both individual and at the team level, before her major breakthrough at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2018 when she became the first Englishwoman in 14 years to win the Women’s British Open.
In doing so, Hall became the first golfer in the history of the sport to win the Women’s British Open, the Women’s Amateur Championship and the Girls’ Amateur Championship.
The two-time Ladies European Tour Order of Merit winner has gone on to represent Europe with distinction twice in the Solheim Cup – most notably for the dramatic win at Gleneagles in September – and to build on an amateur career that saw her play for Great Britain & Ireland in the 2014 Curtis Cup in St Louis.
Hall said: “I’m passionate about helping to grow the game so it’s very natural for me to support The R&A’s great initiatives, particularly for women and children, over the coming years.
“I really enjoyed golf growing up and wanted to have a career in golf from as young as 10. I still enjoy the sport as much now and it is such an honour to be the only player to win those three events.
“I don’t think winning the Women’s British Open will ever sink in, but just to have all those memories and the pictures and tapes, it is always nice to look back and see what I accomplished.
“I’ve got a lot of messages on social media from young girls and boys saying: ‘Thank you. I have started golf because of you.’ If I can help inspire the younger generation that is a great achievement for me.”
Hall also talks about choosing golf ahead of gymnastics as a youngster, how the sport helped her develop new friends and how golf is the ideal sport to switch off, be active and enjoy the outdoors.
She added: “For me, golf really helps me because when I play golf I’m much more confident and feel calmer. It’s just a really good way to get some fresh air and to take your mind off things.”
The R&A is investing £80 million into women’s and mixed golf in the next 10 years to boost participation in the sport with Hall helping raise the profile of women’s and girls’ golf in support of the Women in Golf Charter, led by The R&A.
The charter aims to inspire an industry-wide commitment to developing a more inclusive culture within golf around the world and to enable more women and girls to flourish at all levels of the sport and maximise their potential.
