Stanford women’s golf sensation Rose Zhang continues to be the queen of women’s amateur golf.
The soon-to-be 20-year-old added a win at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, where she showed her mettle is as solid as her stroke.
Up by six strokes over Jenny Bae through three holes in the final round, Zhang suddenly became human, missing some shots that included knocking her ball in the water on the par-5 15th. Taking advantage, Bae eventually caught Zhang forcing a playoff. But Zhang persevered, winning with a par on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.
“It’s been incredible,” said Zhang of her time at Augusta. “The beginning of the week has been pretty crazy already with different press interviews, a lot of expectations on me, and I had a lot of expectations on myself. To overcome everything, I’m just super grateful to be here.”
Over her first two rounds at Champions Retreat Zhang was flawless, setting tournament scoring records two days in a row with an opening 66 and then a 65.
Zhang now has the U.S. Women’s Amateur, an NCAA title at Stanford and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
