Lauren Gebauer went wire-to-wire and picked up a 'double-double'.
Gebauer, a 41-year-old practicing dermatologist from Orinda, carded a final round 2-over 74 Tuesday at Poppy Ridge to win the 6th annual NCGA Women's Mid-Amateur by four shots over Renata Young.
A day after taking the lead with an even-par 72, Gebauer posted three birdies on her way to claiming her second victory at Poppy Ridge in the last six months. Back in December, she won the NCGA Women's Four-Ball Championship with partner Erin Sampson on the new Championship Course.
"I obviously really like this course. It really suits my game well," said Gebauer, who was the NCGA Women's Player of the Year in 2022-23. "It really makes you be creative around the greens, and you have to have good touch with your lag putts."
For Gebauer, the clinchers were birdies at holes Nos. 13 and 16. On the par-5 13th, she'd get on the green in two. While her 10-foot eagle putt missed, she'd tap-in for birdie. In last year's championship, she finished runner-up to Young.
"I think Mid-Ams are a special group. We are really out here to have fun," Gebeauer. "It's great to play with them and support them."
Young finished second at 150 after a final round 76. Elizabeth Scholtes, a former standout on the Junior Tour of Northern California, was third at 155.
