We’re cutting to the chase when we say that Chowchilla resident Asterisk Talley has been on fire recently.
At this year’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Talley, who’s still only 15 years old, was the youngest player in the field.
Was she overwhelmed? Not a bit.
She went on to finish in the top 10, coming in tied for eighth, just nine shots behind winner and No.3 world-ranked Lottie Woad.
Moving along, in early May Talley racked up her 30th Junior Tour of Northern California girls’ title to become the tour’s all-time career wins leader. The previous record had been 29, set by Sabrina Iqbal.
Just to add some more sprinkles, Talley’s 30th career JTNC win was also her 11th victory of the 2023-24 season, which set a JTNC record. She’d break her own record, which was nine.
To top off the recent hot streak, Talley punched her ticket to this year’s U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster CC in Pennsylvania.
Playing in a 36-hole qualifier on May 6, Talley finished in second at 5-under 137 while earning low amateur honors. The field included 19 professionals including medalist Gabriela Ruffels of Australia.
As of May 12, Talley was the 89th ranked female in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
And it’s all only just beginning.
