Golf, a game that has captivated enthusiasts for centuries, is a unique blend of skill, strategy and precision. When players step out onto the course, they enter a world governed by its own unique lexicon, where birdies, bogeys and bunkers become part of the conversation.
Whether you are a beginner, or even a savvy veteran, from tee to green the language of golf weaves a colorful tapestry of terms that both entertain and perplex.
To help those just getting into golf, we thought we’d ease the terminology journey by creating a “cheat sheet” for your next conversation with a caddie or parlay with a pro. To make things easier, we’ve also made the “cheat sheet” downloadable so you can take it out with you!
Some of the terminology topics include hole scoring (par, bogey, etc.), shot directions (pull, push, draw. etc.) and clubs and equipment (wedge, putter, etc.).
And always remember - a slice isn’t just a piece of cake and a mulligan won’t necessarily come in a cocktail glass!
