Throughout my career, I've created a sports corner in the golf shop when I was at a facility that had professional sports teams in the area. Currently, I have a Dolphins corner that takes up the southwest corner of the floor when entering the golf shop. I've always had a close relationship with the Dolphins, as former quarterback Don Strock worked with me at the Silver Course at Doral along with Calusa Country Club in South Miami. For the current display, I use Antigua for most of the apparel, as they are the largest licensed provider for golf brands. My bags are from Wilson, along with NFL Footballs, and I use Tervis for drinkware and New Era for headwear.
Being that it’s football season, the display draws a lot of attention, and I also stock Florida Panthers, Miami Heat and Miami Marlins apparel. We sold out of all Florida Panthers product, and I am waiting for new inventory for the upcoming Stanley Cup Champion Panthers’ season.
I stock men's golf shirts and hoodies for all four of the Miami professional teams that are worn on and off the course, and this continues to grow year after year.
Each year, we go through a couple hundred total sports-related pieces in shirts, caps, hoodies, bags, towels, poker chips, divot tools and other accessories. Total gross sales annually are near $20,000. Years ago, with my professional shop in Alabama, I had a group of members tell me they frequently came to the shop because it was more like a museum than a golf shop. I have never forgotten that and will continue to DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!
