In 2022, we started a promotion where if a customer buys a wedge, we offer them 10 percent off a second wedge and 15 percent off if they buy a third wedge. When we began this promo, we were a bit heavy in our wedge stock, and – as degrees are getting stronger – players are now in need of getting into a four-degree increment. With most players, once you start the conversation about needing a new wedge, they realize they actually need multiple wedges. Either the grooves have worn out, the wedges don’t match or the gapping isn’t correct to match the rest of their set.
This is a great promotion to use in the fall if stock levels are high. It is also a great way to upsell your customer. They now have two new pieces of equipment, and you get an extra sale out of it. It is always a successful move to get the player to come to you for their equipment needs. A player who trusts their local PGA Professional will come back to you for lessons, merchandise or any other question the game may offer. Wedge sales have definitely seen an uptick from this promotion. But the real benefit is we’re seeing our players come back to us for many of their golfing needs.
