Each year, the Colorado Golf Association takes pride in honoring the exceptional achievements of our Men’s and Women’s leagues with the esteemed CGA Club of the Year Award. The 2023 Men’s Club of the Year, the Parker Golf Association, and the Women’s Club of the Year, the Aurora Hills Ladies 9-Hole League, have raised the bar in golfing prowess and left an indelible mark on our community. This award is a testament to their outstanding contributions, reflecting the true spirit of the game.
The Aurora Hills Ladies 9-Hole League, a testament to the power of community, has been fostering friendships and golfing for 41 years. Their motto, “Come play golf and create lifelong friendships,” Encapsulates their welcoming and encouraging spirit. Regardless of your golfing ability, you're embraced because, at some point, everyone was a beginner.
They create a welcoming environment, and the Aurora Hills Ladies 9-Hole League demonstrates a deep commitment to a more significant cause. For 28 years, they have organized the annual fundraising tournament, Pink for PINK, raising over $16,000 in 2023 alone for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Their dedication to the cause is inspiring, as Leigh Bessey, Committee Chair for the Play for PINK Tournament, shares, “Breast cancer has affected many women in our league, and this is our way to continue the fight, so hopefully, one day we will have a cure.”
This is the third year the Parker Golf Association has been named the CGA Men’s Club of the Year. The league's motto is “Helping our neighbors through the game of Golf.” This is very true as they host the Fairways of Hope Tournament annually, which raises money for the Help and Hope Center and the Parker Task Force. In 2023, the tournament raised $31,000, which was then given to needy families in the community through partner organizations.
In addition to their fundraising efforts, they are passionate about helping the next generation. They encourage their members to take caddies involved with the Solich Caddie & Leadership Academy at CommonGround Golf Course. The Solich Caddies are kids on a path to the Evans Scholarship, full tuition and housing at the University of Colorado.
Both leagues did outstanding things in 2023, and we look forward to seeing more in 2024. The CGA knows that all clubs do outstanding things on and off the golf course. We would like to hear what you are doing! Submit your club for the 2024 Club of the Year. Applications will open in October.
