Originally from Rutland, England, George Petrie grew up playing competitive junior golf with his twin brother, experiences that he now calls on in his role at the CGA as the Manager of Competitions. George attended Rutgers University, where he studied Political Science. During the summers, while home in England, he got his first taste of the golf industry when he worked in the R&A’s Player Services department during the 149th and 150th Opens.
After graduating from Rutgers in 2022, George interned for the USGA, specializing in their Amateur Championships. Over that summer, he worked in the USGA office helping on the pre-season administrative side before going on-site at 4 Championships to gain more experience with the Championships and Rules departments. It was during this time, George got his first taste of Denver, spending 2 weeks at the 2023 US Amateur and meeting several CGA staff for the first time. George’s time with the USGA concluded in September and after a short stint in Australia working at the Asia-Pacific Amateur, he moved out to Colorado to begin with the CGA.
“After the USGA, I was keen to stay in the golf industry, specifically on the amateur side. There’s just such a rewarding feeling that comes with organizing amateur events and seeing people enjoy golf in it’s purest form. I knew that I wanted to join an AGA and when I saw that the CGA was looking for a Competitions Manager it immediately caught my eye. I had had such a positive time here at the Amateur, it was there where I worked with Lewis for the first time there and just really enjoyed Denver as a whole and when this opportunity came to join the CGA I was quick to apply.” -George Petrie
Join us in welcoming these incredible individuals to the CGA family. Their diverse backgrounds, passions, and experiences promise to bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the world of golf in Colorado!
