The similarities between golf and tennis are, well, few and far between. Golf is played on an infinitely varied course. Tennis is played on an exacting court that is the same worldwide. The golf ball is played from the ground. The tennis ball is played from the air. Losing a golf ball is a very common occurrence. Losing a tennis ball…maybe you should take up another game. If you get hit by a golf ball, you may be visiting an emergency room. Unless you are playing against a gamer named, Novak, getting hit by a tennis ball will most likely leave you unscathed.
While golf and tennis could not be more different there are a few similarities. Both are games of a lifetime. Both are wonderful outlets for friendships and social interaction. Both get you out of the house and in the fresh air. Both have developed excellent handicap systems to make the game fun and enjoyable for players of varying skillsets. And, both are easily played as an individual or as a team.
When it comes to teams, tennis has golf beat. Tennis has always emphasized doubles. Golf has traditionally been stuck in its old ways. Sure, in golf we often play with a partner, but it is usually in a format where each player plays their own ball. In tennis, as you get older, most players gravitate to doubles. Why? First and foremost, it is more fun. But there are practical reasons. Let’s be honest, as we get older chasing down those ground strokes gets harder and harder. Why not divide the court with a partner and take some of the load off?
Well, thanks to an exciting new partnership with Doubles Golf® the CGA is excited to introduce golf’s version of doubles. Doubles Golf® is the rebranding of the traditional two-player scramble. The developers of Doubles Golf® refer to the format as “Better Shot” which is a much more accurate description of a scramble—both players hit and chose the better shot. Much like tennis, the format allows players to lean on a partner to make the game more friendly. Let’s be honest, wouldn’t we like to simply go pick up that sh#$nk rather than play it from the native??
The CGA is excited to offer a free opportunity to all members where you can now post your Doubles team 9-hole scores from your phone and receive your CGA Doubles Rating and Ranking powered by Doubles Golf®. Teams consist of Men, Women, Seniors, or Mixed.
To take part in this exciting new format, founded by the legendary Jack Nicklaus and the originators of Jr. League Golf, all you have to do is click the registration button below to activate your free membership. Doubles Golf leagues and tournaments will spring up throughout Colorado this summer, and the CGA plans a Doubles Ranking Ladder for all A, B, and C Division teams. Special prizes will be given out to the top teams throughout the season!
If you think Doubles Golf® is not for you, I challenge you to give it a try. It might just double your enjoyment of the game.
