After the completion of renovation efforts that began in May 2022, the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library is now open to the public with extended hours. The location will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
With extended hours, customers will have more access to library services and time to explore the refreshed spaces of the location, which include a redesigned first floor featuring an open floor plan, a new teen space, new study rooms, a relocated circulation desk and new book drop, refreshed community meetings rooms, and more.
Denver voters approved the Elevate Denver Bond in November 2017, which provided $3.7 million for part of the location's renovation. Other renovation efforts, such as cosmetic improvements on the second and third floors of the building, were made possible by Strong Library, Strong Denver, supported by the Denver Public Libray fund.
The location serves as a full-service branch library, houses collection archives and a research library, and offers a museum dedicated to Denver’s African American community.
