In the spirit of accountability & healing, we acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities, especially the 48 contemporary tribal nations that inhabit the lands that make up the state of Colorado including the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Ute people whose land upon which Denver Public Library stands.
As we strive to dispel the many myths of Indigenous history and culture that resulted from the false narratives of European invasions of the 15th and 16th centuries, we honor the achievements, lives, lands and sovereignty of Indigenous people.
May this acknowledgment demonstrate a commitment to working to dismantle ongoing legacies of settler colonialism, oppression, and inequities, and to recognize the hundreds of Indigenous Nations who continue to resist, live, create, and uphold their sacred relations across their lands. We intentionally honor and celebrate the Indigenous communities in our City and express our gratitude for their ongoing contributions.
