The Westwood Branch Library, located in the Westwood Community Center at 1000 S. Lowell Boulevard, temporarily closed for construction on June 14. The project is the first of several facility improvements that are funded by Strong Library, Strong Denver supported by the Denver Public Library (DPL) Fund. Denver voters passed measure 2i in November 2022, which established the DPL Fund, providing the library with an additional $32 million a year.
The Westwood Branch Library project includes the addition of a computer lab, a cosmetic finish refresh in the existing space, and a newly configured building lobby to connect the new and renovated spaces in partnership with Westwood Together - the coalition of organizations that are housed at the community center.
While the branch is closed, customer holds have been transferred to the Hadley Branch Library located at 1890 S. Grove Street, and the bookmobile will visit the community center every other Thursday from 2-4 p.m.
The work continues during the implementation year for the DPL Fund. Over the course of the year, the public can look forward to more open job opportunities at the library, expanded hours at branch libraries, additional improvements at Central Library, additional refreshed spaces at several branch locations, and more available resources for cardholders.
