“We had a Bleeding Disorders Conference in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which is where I reside. This is when I was executive director of the Texas Central Hemophilia Association. I was one of the host chapters, and it was so fun to get a behind-the-scenes look at everything that goes into the conference. That was right before I started working at NHF. The coolest thing was that I won Advocate of the Year that year (2015), which was just really special to me. And the event was Texas themed. They gave me tools to be self-sufficient and to be a good advocate and nurse to my patients. That learning curve was really steep but very short. Part of that learning was coming to BDC year after year, and learning from other nurses who had come before me, and then eventually paying that back as part of the nurses working group and presenting. It comes full circle.
