Country music artist Kristy Lee Cook has carved out a career that beautifully blends her love for music with her deep passion for the outdoors. Many know her from her time on American Idol, where her powerful voice and authentic charm won over audiences nationwide. Today, she is equally well recognized as the host of The Most Wanted List on the Sportsman Channel, a show that captures her adventurous spirit and commitment to the outdoor lifestyle. When Kristy sat down with me, the conversation was less about celebrity highlights and more about the real-life journey that brought her from the stage to the woods.
Kristy grew up in Oregon, where her life revolved around music, horses, and family. Those early years gave her a love of performing and a strong work ethic, but it wasn’t until later that hunting entered her world. She recalled how her introduction to the outdoors began in a unique way through a trade of horse-riding lessons for hunting lessons. What started as a curiosity quickly became a passion, opening a new chapter in her life that would eventually reshape her career.
“I’ve always loved animals and the outdoors,” Kristy shared, “but learning how to hunt gave me a new respect for nature, conservation, and the connection we have with our food.”
For Kristy, music and the outdoors are not separate worlds. They feed into each other. Her outdoor journey has influenced her songwriting, inspiring original pieces like Overcome and Good Timing. She even incorporated her music into The Most Wanted List, giving the show a personal touch that resonated with fans.
Balancing music and hunting has not always been easy. Touring schedules and filming deadlines often collided, but Kristy found ways to keep both passions alive. “It’s about staying true to who you are,” she said. “Music is part of me, and so is hunting. They both keep me grounded.”
When Kristy took ownership of The Most Wanted List, she envisioned more than just another hunting show. Over 12 seasons, the program has grown into a celebration of family, faith, and outdoor tradition. From its beginnings with Browning sponsorships to collaborations with Gunworks, the show has continually evolved while keeping its heart intact.
What makes it unique is Kristy’s personal touch whether she’s introducing a long- range shooting challenge, sharing campfire stories, or welcoming celebrity guests. Past episodes have featured Donald Trump Jr., whose shooting skills impressed Kristy, as well as Cowboy Cerrone and Hannah Barron. But beyond the big names, some of her most meaningful memories have come from veteran hunts and special partnerships with organizations that highlight the healing power of the outdoors.
Kristy isn’t slowing down anytime soon. She’s gearing up for a major trip to Alaska in pursuit of brown bear, followed by a celebrity hunt in Idaho with friends and outdoor personalities. For her, each hunt is more than a pursuit it’s a story, a memory, and often a shared experience that connects people in ways few other things can.
During our conversation, Kristy opened- up about the challenges she has faced as a woman in the music industry. She described the pressures to compromise values for success but emphasized the importance of standing firm.
“You can’t let someone else define your path,” she explained. “If you stay true to your beliefs, the right opportunities will come.”
Her advice to young women was both practical and heartfelt: stay authentic, support those without a voice, and never allow outside pressure to dictate your choices. I agreed, noting that her resilience is what makes her both relatable and inspiring.
Beyond the stage and the screen, Kristy wears many hats. She’s a mother, a homeschool teacher, a horse trainer, a producer, and a content creator. Add in building a house, managing sponsors, and preparing for an Alaskan hunt, and her schedule is nothing short of exhausting. Yet Kristy approaches it all with humor and perspective.
Fans can watch The Most Wanted List on Sportsman’s Channel, Hunt Channel, Carbon TV, and Wild TV in Canada. The show continues to shine a spotlight on hunting, conservation, and the values that matter most: family, faith, and authenticity.
Kristy’s journey from country music stardom to outdoor television host is more than a career shift it’s a story of passion, perseverance, and staying true to one’s roots. Whether she’s performing on stage, training a horse, or glassing for game on the horizon, Kristy embodies the resilience and adventurous spirit that define the outdoor lifestyle.
