The second amendment to the Constitution of the United States was adopted in 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights. This provided us a constitutional right to checks on the congressional power under Article I Section 8 that gives us the right to organize, arm and discipline the federal militia.
In simple terms, yes, the second amendment gives us the right to protect ourselves, family and property but is our “Obligation†to be sure that that we have the means to protect ourselves against a tyrannical government. It is not only our obligation, it is our right.
