As I sit here gazing out my office window at Bert-Co, I can not help but to reflect on the incredible experience that my son and I just had on our annual fishing trip just a few days before. We have traveled to the West Coast Resorts at Englefield Bay in British Columbia each Memorial Day, for the past three years. There really is no better way for a father and son to spend some quality male bonding time together than spending time in the wilderness.
We had taken an early flight into Vancouver which is always followed by an unpredictable adventure aboard the charter flight to Sandspit. This year the short flight was remarkably smooth. There was hardly any turbulence. From there we hop aboard a quick chopper flight to the lodge. It did not take us long to get settled in and spend time with some friends.
Upon our arrival, I was pleasantly surprised how temperate the weather was. It felt as if we were fishing off the coast of Cabo San Lucus as apposed to the Prince Islands. We boarded the boat and were on the water by 6 a.m. The long days on the water paid off as we hit our limit every day on Chinook salmon, Ling Cod, Halibut, Snapper, Yellow Eye and Sea Bass. We used Down Riggers with frozen herring mostly but for the bottom fish we used salmon bellies. In all, we shipped home over 200 pounds of fish. They made sure to fillet, vacuum seal and freeze all of the fish back at the lodge for us.
Although we were out in the wilderness, I can not exactly say that we were roughing it. The sauna, hot tub and massage was just what the doctor ordered after spending long ten hour days out on the water battling these delicacies of the deep. All of this was followed up with meals that were fit for a king. It was difficult to bring our trip to a close after everybody at the West Coast Resort had taken such great care of us. They even brought our lunch out to the boat while we were fishing!
Mike?......Mike, I have the proofs for the packaging for the new ammo company that you have been designing.
My partner’s voice snapped me right out of British Columbia and back into my office at BertCo where we have been designing and manufacturing folding cartons and innovative specialty packaging for major brands since 1930.
At BertCo we work with a wide array of industries which always makes my days an interesting challenge but when I have an opportunity to work on a project that keeps me close to my passion of the outdoors, well that is always special to me.
