Environmental Protection Agency, Region 8 and 9
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Region 8 office in Denver Colorado employs approximately 500 staff who work to protect human health and the environment in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, and 28 sovereign tribal nations. Our states encompass the heart of the American West, including much of the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, and Colorado Plateau. Characterized by vast open spaces — mountains, plains, canyons, and deserts — and small, concentrated population centers, these areas still maintain some of the wild, frontier character that many associate with the West. They also contain many of our nation's most recognizable landscapes, including Yellowstone, Glacier, Rocky Mountain, Badlands, Zion, and dozens more National Parks and Monuments, millions of acres of forests, and even more range, farm, and grassland. epa.gov

“I’ve launched this rocket I built over 25 times. It’s a scale model of a regular Navy missile. I like the craftsmanship of building rockets.”

First Nations Launch: NASA Artemis Student Challenge
The Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium First Nations Launch competition offers Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU), Native American–Serving Nontribal Institution (NASNTI), as well as active American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) collegiate chapters the opportunity to demonstrate engineering and design skills through direct application in high-power rocketry. The competition requires teams of undergraduate students to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with high-power rockets. FNL is a “First Step”designed for students with no prior experience working with high-powered rockets. Rocket motors and dimensions are restricted by competition parameters so that the knowledge, creativity, and imagination of the students are challenged. The end result is a great aerospace learning experience unique to the Native American communities. nasa.gov/stem-content/first-nations-launch
