Primary Responsibilities

Through interaction with customers, identifies development or service needs in conjunction with business development and engineering management, promising areas of research or technology that have large potential R&D and commercial markets.

Tracks industry trends, government regulations and competitor activity to identify business opportunities in promising areas of research or technology associated with the delivery of natural gas.

Develops annual organizational budgets for revenue, sales, contribution and overhead.

Communicates performance, plans, goals and significant issues of group to senior management and, when appropriate, the board of directors.

Acquires and assesses staff and physical resources required to perform work effectively, to build opportunity into the business, to attract strategic new business and to attract and retain talent.

Initiates, leads and responds to requests for customer interaction with private- and public-sector clients.

Communicates to senior management and board of directors’ overview of group’s business strategy and plan.

Communicates to the staff corporate expectations, group expectations and group performance relative to goals on a regular basis.

Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.

Builds industry visibility through GTI’s offerings.

Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.

Approves proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds, or allocates funds from department budget.

Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.

Meets regularly with U.S. and international industry leaders to identify and discuss industry issues.

Works to change regulations so that new technologies and procedures can be fully utilized to the benefit of the gas industry and its customers.

Negotiates collaborations with academia, government and corporations, including coordination with intellectual property legal personnel and technology licensing personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, training and evaluation of the delivery sector. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with GTI’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

This includes responsibility for specialized pipeline integrity data management, integration and analysis and related training. Management of the leak survey function for UGI Gas and PNG including the direct supervision of the Leakage Survey Coordinators, direct support to field activities and offices and support for regulatory audit and responses.

Manage Company staff and outside contractors involved with the Distribution Management Program (DIMP) for all UGI distribution companies. Oversee analyses of pipeline safety risk evaluations including the development of appropriate metrics to monitor risk; plans and actions to mitigate risk and identify pipeline leak trends to effectively focus resources on leak surveys and pipeline replacements.

Manage the Leak Survey function for UGI Gas and PNG including supervision of leak survey coordinators in each division.

Oversee effective risk modeling of pipelines. This includes the oversight of effective analysis and implementation of key risk components associated with pipeline threats and consequences. Coordinate effective pipeline data analysis from various sources necessary for pipeline integrity management. (i.e., GIS, corrosion control, substructure damage, leak surveys, public awareness, pipeline failures, etc.). Develop and track a risk-based system for determining the prioritization of main to be replaced under the Capital Budget. Maintain this system and develop long-term replacement plans for all of the UGI companies.

Provide and coordinate technical training in related aspects of pipeline integrity; risk modeling; leak survey applications.

Perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge & Skills

Experience in pipeline design/replacement or maintenance of distribution piping

Knowledge of federal and state regulators relating to a distribution company

Experience with information technology

Support upper levels of management

Education

BS degree in engineering

Position ConceptTo perform activities required to operate and maintain all gas production and gas supply equipment, including but not necessarily limited to LNG plant equipment, pressure regulators, critical valves, odorizers and telemetering equipment. Professionally interact with customers, regulatory authorities and employees to ensure that the company satisfactorily meets their goals.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Must have knowledge and be proficient at LNG plant operations

Must have knowledge of telecommunication and SCADA systems

Must be able to pass a general olfactory test

Must have some knowledge of welding

Must have demonstrated mechanical ability and aptitude to perform the above duties in a safe and professional manner

Must be proficient in the use of personal computers

Must be able to obtain applicable Operator Qualification (OQ) certification based upon the requirements set forth in DOT 49 CFR 192, Subpart N

Must pass a DOT drug screen, if not presently in a covered position

Must maintain a valid driver’s license based on the requirements of the state of Maine and/or the state where the employee resides

Must have the ability to effectively communicate

Must be able to work independently and exercise good judgment

Must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test and be in good physical condition

Must be regular in attendance and maintain a good safety record

Must be able to accept assignments in a company-declared emergency, be available to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation

Must be able to operate a forklift
