United States partners with India on gas task force
Noted U.S. and Indian natural gas industry experts will put their heads together on a vision for natural gas in India in the new U.S.-India Natural Gas Task Force.
The task force, created at the inaugural meeting of the U.S.-India Strategic Energy Partnership, will develop innovative policy recommendations for the government of India in support of its vision for natural gas in that nation’s economy, according to a joint statement issued after the meeting in April.
With the goal of advancing strategic and economic interests of both countries, the task force will convene soon to further develop action plans for the respective pillars of cooperation, according to the statement.
Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, co-chairs of the Strategic Energy Partnership, will review reports from four primary pillars of cooperation: oil and gas, power and energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable growth, and coal.
Specifically, the partnership seeks to enhance energy security, expand energy and innovation linkages across respective energy sectors, bolster strategic alignment and facilitate increased industry and stakeholder engagement in the energy sector, according to the statement.
The opportunity to advance favorable policies and commercial investments, including in natural gas markets, is inherent in these goals, the statement said.
