The 2021 year was an exceptional one for the ACUHO-I Foundation’s fund-raising campaigns. The 70th Anniversary Campaign’s original goal was $70,000, and as of October 2021 it totaled $144,140. This year also saw the Parthenon Campaign surpass its goal of $35,000, with a year-end total of $36,670. Historically speaking, the Parthenon Campaign has now raised $444,947 to date.
While these successful campaigns give reason to celebrate, more so does the way these funds have impacted the lives of members. Katie Campbell, a community director at Texas A & M University, shares what attending the James C. Grimm National Housing Training Institute in 2021 with Foundation support has meant to her. “It gave me a lot of different perspectives and new colleagues to reach out to for resources. It further affirmed my passion for student affairs – specifically housing – and doing the work that needs to be done to be better.†Another member, Melinda Gilliam, an area coordinator at the University of Washington who attended the 2019 ACUHO-I Annual Conference and Exposition and the 2021 Multicultural Institute with Foundation support, reveals how she has been affected by it. “Opportunities to engage at the international level have allowed me to build connections to others in this field. Learning from others through conference presentations, socials, and case study competitions has helped develop my knowledge and perspective, which allows me to be more effective in my role. These opportunities have also helped me to refine my interests and home in on my career path in residential life.â€
Stories like these only inspire the Foundation to do more. Keep an eye out for Foundation initiatives in 2022 that will continue the support of education, research, and practice innovations for the student housing profession. Until then, the Foundation would like to thank Association members for an outstanding year of giving and for helping to make an impact on the lives of practitioners and the profession.
