Take a moment to write down the current components of your student staff hiring process. Include all the questions, activities, and requests that candidates will experience throughout the hiring process. Consider how your current hiring process aligns with your student staff job descriptions and overall goals of your department. Are there components that need to be re-assessed? Are there sections kept just for the sake of tradition?
Ask yourself the following: In your experience, what kind of skills and traits do the ideal candidates for this role have? Make a list of must-have skills, experience, and traits and compare this to your rubric or method of assessment for hiring. Do they align, or are there areas that need more or less focus? What ways can you best assess these must-haves during your interview process?
Taking into consideration your department’s current hiring process, how could the group interview portion be modified, improved, or removed to better meet the needs of the department and campus?
