Unforgettable Family Fun Aboard the Carnival Jubilee
Marti L. Travis Gonzalez
When AAA Employee Heather Blackwelder decided it was time for a family getaway, she chose Carnival’s newest cruise ship, the Carnival Jubilee. The family was awestruck as they approached the towering Carnival Jubilee, its gleaming exterior and impressive size making a striking first impression. Stepping onboard, their excitement only grew as they began exploring the ship's six vibrant themed zones. Every corner offered something new to discover. More like a floating city of fun than a cruise ship, the Jubilee’s lively atmosphere immediately set the tone for an unforgettable family adventure.
Carnival Jubilee Itinerary
Setting sail from its home port in Galveston, Texas, the Jubilee followed an itinerary tailor-made for families, featuring the stunning destinations of Mahogany Bay in Roatan, Honduras, and Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. Along with her husband, Phillip, and their two children, Marlee, 9, and Hank, 7, Heather embarked on a journey that perfectly combined fun, relaxation and cherished family moments.

Carnival Jubilee: High Tech and Sustainability
Launched in December 2023, the Carnival Jubilee has quickly claimed its spot as one of the most advanced and exciting cruise ships in the world, redefining what it means to set sail in style. As the newest member of Carnival’s Excel Class fleet—joining the Carnival Mardi Gras and the Carnival Celebration—this innovative ship combines massive scale with groundbreaking amenities. With the capacity to host up to 6,600 guests, the Jubilee is truly a vibrant floating city buzzing with energy and excitement. Sustainability takes center stage with its liquefied natural gas (LNG) power, making it one of the most ecofriendly ships at sea while delivering a smooth, efficient ride.
As the first cruise ship in North America to feature 5G connectivity, the Jubilee ensures guests stay connected with high-speed internet. The Jubilee’s modern design blends Carnival’s signature colorful and festive vibe with sleek, contemporary touches, offering a lively yet polished atmosphere that appeals to every style of cruiser.

The Carnival Jubilee offers cruise accommodations with a range of options designed to suit every traveler, from luxurious suites to family-friendly staterooms. Adding a touch of innovation, the ship features smart staterooms equipped with keyless entry, customizable lighting and interactive TVs, creating the perfect blend of convenience and sophistication. Among the standout choices is the Cove Balcony room, a cozy yet elegant retreat nestled close to the waterline. This is the type of cabin the Blackwelders stayed in and couldn’t stop raving about their experience. They loved the private balcony, which was perfect for soaking up ocean breezes and breathtaking sea views. “I will definitely stay in a Cove Balcony cabin again,” says Heather. “It offered our family plenty of space, and the balcony was always shaded, making it perfect to enjoy at any time of the day.”

Kid-Centric Adventures
The Carnival Jubilee is nothing short of a paradise for kids, brimming with activities that keep young cruisers engaged, excited and smiling from ear to ear. At Camp Ocean, Marlee and Hank were captivated by ocean-themed crafts, games and interactive storytelling. The attentive Camp Ocean crew even added a personal touch by writing personalized notes to Heather and her husband, sharing updates about their children’s activities and ensuring peace of mind as they enjoyed their own downtime.
Another highlight onboard is the Build-A-Bear Workshop at Sea, a delightful activity where children can design their very own cuddly companion. From selecting the perfect bear or other stuffed animal to choosing outfits and accessories, Marlee and Hank were able to personalize their new furry friends. Each stuffie becomes a cherished keepsake, a reminder of the exciting adventures they had onboard.
Adding even more whimsy is Carnival’s beloved Seuss at Sea program, which brings the enchanting world of Dr. Seuss to life. Kids are thrilled by the chance to meet characters like the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2 during lively meet-and-greets.

Tasty Delights for Kids
The fun aboard the Jubilee doesn't stop at mealtime! The Seuss at Sea theme brings its magic to dining with the whimsical Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, a lively, interactive event that turns mornings into a feast straight out of Dr. Seuss. Kids and adults alike can enjoy playful dishes like brightly colored pancakes and, of course, the famous green eggs and ham.
There’s no shortage of kid-friendly dining options, either. From Guy’s Burger Joint to 24-hour pizza stations, and menus featuring mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, and fun desserts, Marlee and Hank were thrilled with every meal.
The whole family enjoyed coming together over delicious food, laughing about the day’s adventures, planning the next and topping it all off with some ice cream—one of their favorite treats on board!

Onboard Escapes Just for Adults
While the kids enjoyed their own adventures, Heather and her husband found time to relax. The Serenity Adult-Only Retreat provided a peaceful haven with plush loungers, a private pool and breathtaking ocean views, perfect for unwinding in tranquility. When the evening rolled around, the ship’s vibrant nightlife came alive. From hilarious comedy shows to live music and themed bars, the Jubilee offered countless ways for the pair to unwind and have fun.
Heather and Phillip fell in love with Bonsai Sushi, choosing to eat there twice during their trip. It offers a delicious selection of freshly prepared sushi, sashimi and rolls, as well as other Japanese-inspired dishes. With its inviting atmosphere and carefully crafted menu, it’s a perfect spot for sushi lovers to enjoy a flavorful dining experience at sea.
One standout feature on the Jubilee was The Heroes Lounge. A heartfelt tribute to the men and women of the military, offering a cozy, inviting space where guests of all ages can relax and reflect. Decked out in patriotic decor, this lounge celebrates courage and service with thoughtful touches like military memorabilia and a warm ambiance. Whether you're a veteran, active service member or simply someone who appreciates their sacrifices, the Heroes Lounge is a standout destination for connection and gratitude at sea.
Family Fun Time
Onboard, the Blackwelders made the most of their time together, packing each day with fun and adventure. The Ultimate Playground was the perfect spot for nonstop excitement, with Carnival WaterWorks offering waterslides and splash zones that kept everyone laughing and splashing. SportSquare had something for everyone, from miniature golf and basketball to the challenging ropes course. Heather even braved the Bolt rollercoaster, taking in the thrill of the ride and breathtaking ocean views. With so many ways to play, there was never a dull moment for this adventurous family.
On shore days, the Blackwelders explored port of call with a variety of unforgettable activities. In Costa Maya, Mexico, they were captivated by the heart-stopping Danza de los Voladores, a traditional ritual where dancers soared high above the ground, spinning from tall wooden poles in a breathtaking display of skill and culture. In Cozumel, they enjoyed a lively sea lion show at Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park, laughing and clapping as these playful creatures performed incredible tricks. The adventure continued in Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Honduras, where the family toured a local chocolate factory, learning about the sweet process of cacao and indulging in delicious samples. They capped off the day with a snorkeling trip in the crystal-clear waters, swimming alongside vibrant fish and coral in one of the Caribbean’s most stunning underwater landscapes.
