The idea behind the development of the new King family of three Radspeed drivers from Cobra was to maximize performance and increase distance for a broad spectrum of players, and to do so largely through optimized weightings that are unique in each club.
The Radspeed driver features a traditionally shaped, 460cc head and is designed for better players looking for low spin, low launch and workability. By pushing weight as far forward and as far back as possible, engineers say they found ways to enhance both speed and stability. A CNC milled Infinity Face further bolsters ball speed, they say, even on off-center hits.
Next up is the Radspeed XB (for Xtreme Back). It, too, has a 460cc clubhead, but with an oversized address profile. Company officials say that a singular mix of front and back weights makes this driver the fastest and most forgiving Cobra has released. It, too, employs a CNC milled Infinity Face.
The third series is the XD (for Xtreme Draw). It comes with the same, slightly oversized 460cc head, but with a heel-based weighting that makes it easier for players to close the face so they can turn over their tee shots. Additional back weighting is added with the intent of enhancing forgiveness, while front weighting is used to increase ball speed – and distance.
“Our Radspeed drivers represent a true breakthrough in performance,” said Tom Olsavsky, vice president of research and development at Cobra Golf. “Our engineers have outdone themselves by delivering three distinct drivers aimed at three different types of golfers … from tour players to weekend warriors and those who need help correcting a slice.”
