Kjus, a premium ski and golf apparel company that was acquired last summer by Acushnet, the parent company of Titleist and FootJoy, prides itself on products that are as much about form as they are function. The latest example of that is the newly released Gemini jacket, which as the name suggests is made to be two garments in one thanks to its reversibility and the different performance properties of each side.
When worn with the dark side facing out, the waterproof, breathable and windproof fabric of the Gemini absorbs 99 percent of all external ambient heat and pushes it inside. The light side facing inward then traps the heat, reflecting it against the body.
Conversely, when the jacket is worn with the light side facing out, it becomes more of a windbreaker, rejecting 49 percent of all external ambient heat. At the same time, the dark side facing in is designed to absorb the excess ambient heat being released from the body and then push it out, decreasing the internal temperature in the process.
The jacket is available in men’s and women’s versions and boasts an ergonomic collar that is low in the front to stay out of the way of one’s putting stroke and high in the back to protect a golfer’s neck from the rain. It also features the sort of modern, minimalist look that has come to define Kjus while also providing players with full and unfettered movement when swinging their clubs. There also is a Gemini vest for men.
