ART & CULTURE
Part of the undiscovered tapestry of North Florida, the artistic and cultural treasures begin in the region’s northwesternmost city of Pensacola, home to a resident opera, ballet and symphony orchestra as well as the historic Saenger Theatre and the accredited Pensacola Museum of Art, all set within the downtown core.
HISTORY & HERITAGE
Take a deeper dive into the past at the Florida Museum of Natural History to learn about Alachua County’s first inhabitants, including the Seminole, Calusa and Timucua people. Meanwhile, Alachua’s Digital Black Heritage Trail Map remembers the Jim Crow years and celebrates the resilience of the county’s black communities.
NATURE &N ECOTOURISM
Now that you have a spring in your step, head over to the picturesque seaside towns of Walton County, whose 15 coastal dune lakes are an extremely rare geographical feature, found only in a handful of locations around the globe. A mix of fresh and saltwater, with a unique variety of plants and animals to match, there are coastal dune lakes in Deer Lake State Park in Santa Rosa Beach and Grayton Beach State Park. Also part of this estuary system is Choctawhatchee Bay, a semi-enclosed body of water fed by creeks and bayous before spilling into the Gulf of Mexico.
