Disney Parks are filled with places that make us feel oddly connected to a man most of us never met. The kinds of places where elephants fly, a carousel makes progress, birds sing words and flowers croon. But for me, it’s not an attraction that reminds me most of our company’s founder, but rather a walkway – one that connects Fantasyland to Tomorrowland. Because while Uncle Walt’s stories sparkled in every setting, they seemed to shine brightest at the intersection of fiction and futurism.
Remember when he used to appear on television, sharing “outlandish” predictions for our world of tomorrow? All that talk about self-driving cars, video telephones and people heating food with microwaves of electromagnetic radiation? What sounded like fantasy has become ingrained in our reality. (He also spoke of Monorails solving L.A. traffic, and as someone who recently spent the better part of two hours driving between meetings in Anaheim and Burbank, I sure wish we’d get on that.)
So imagine my delight when I first learned of plans to develop Disney Vacation Club Star View Station – A Member Lounge now open in the heart of Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park. Then imagine how happily my feet danced just below the frame of my video call (what a time to be alive!) when the conversation turned to detailing the lounge with legendary art and artifacts (including a mid-century space suit like the one I’m wearing in this cartoon) honoring Walt’s enduring legacy as a fantastical futurist. More than just a place to rest your feet and recharge your futuristic devices, Star View Station became a love letter to Uncle Walt and a celestial celebration of “yesterday’s tomorrow.”
You can read more about the lounge’s details on pages 3-8 (the last of those pages also includes a QR code link to the new Star View Station episode of our Disney Files On Demand YouTube series “Details We Dig”).
All of us at Disney Vacation Club hope you enjoy your sleek new “space,” and we look forward to welcoming you home for many great big beautiful tomorrows.
See you in the future,
Ryan March
