The number of past Women’s Texas Amateur champions who have gone on to earn an honored place in the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. Listed in order by their induction year, they are Mildred “Babe” Didrikson Zaharias (Class of 1978), Betty Jameson (1979), Polly Riley (1980), Mary Ann Morrison (1981), Betsy Rawls (1983), Sandra Haynie (1984), Sandra Palmer (1985), Aniela Gorczyca Goldthwaite (1986), Edna C. Lapham (1993), Toni Wiesner (2010), Carolyn Creekmore (2010), Mina Hardin (2012), and Robin Burke (2016).
Zaharias, Jameson, Rawls, and Haynie, who currently serves as a special advisor to the TGA, are also enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
In a remarkable stretch that began with the inaugural championship in 1916, when Lapham recorded the first of her seven overall titles, and carried on through 2005, when Hardin captured her fifth Silver Lake Cup trophy, the 13 Hall of Famers combined to win 44 of the 85 Women’s Texas Amateurs conducted during that timeframe.
