The estimated number of female golfers in the United States, according to the National Golf Foundation (NGF). That’s up from 5.6 million in 2019, a nearly 15% rise in participation over the past few years, which is especially notable when compared to the slight 2% increase among male golfers over the same timeframe.
The NGF points to several factors that have helped contribute to the jump in the women and girls golf population, including the abundance of junior developmental programs with a female focus, with girls representing 38% of all golfers under 18; the increased availability of golf entertainment venues like Topgolf that provide a fun, less-intimidating atmosphere to get comfortable hitting a golf ball; and greater visibility and support of industry initiatives that make golf more welcoming and inclusive.
With the recent influx, there has never been greater female representation on the golf course than right now, with women and girls accounting for just over one quarter of traditional golfers.
