There is an astonishing depth of talented golfers in the Lone Star State. There always has been, of course. Starting with the gifted junior and collegiate players, on up through the accomplished men and women mid-amateurs and seniors, the stars definitely are bright in Texas.
With a full-time experienced staff, abundant resources and well-trained volunteers, coupled with the unwavering support of our Member Clubs, the Texas Golf Association and Legends Junior Tour are proud to offer best-in-class competitive opportunities for golfers across all age groups to develop and display their skills.
It takes a tremendous amount of hard work to reach the top in competitive amateur golf circles, especially in Texas. Long before the opening drive is launched down the middle or the first clutch putt is made, those who aspire to great heights spend countless hours on the practice range in the hopes of perfecting their game.
It doesn’t always go as planned in the heat of competition, but such is the cruel and capricious nature of the game. When things do click, though, and one has bested a field of the state’s best amateur golfers, there is a tremendous feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.
The TGA salutes the thousands of players who compete in its annual events, and who help support and elevate the amateur game of golf. To recognize sustained excellence during the course of a season, the TGA and LJT established Player of the Year Awards. The awards are presented annually to the men, women, seniors and juniors who at the end of the year have accumulated the most performance points earned for top finishes in designated TGA and LJT regional and statewide competitions, as well as USGA national championships.
Over the following pages, you’ll meet and learn more about the TGA and LJT Players of the Year for 2018.
