It was great to see so many Scotland Grows’ readers taking part in our Seed Swap at the National Gardening & Outdoor Living Show at the Royal Highland Centre at the end of July. So many unloved seeds were dropped off by readers and swapped for seeds that would be sown and loved, showing the power we have within our gardening community to keep gardening budget-friendly and sustainable.
Happy sowing!
Scotland’s Garden Scheme is always on the look out for volunteers to help at garden openings or behind the scenes to help them raise as much money as possible for charitable causes through garden openings. Find out more here.
The Threave School of Heritage Gardening is celebrating its 65th anniversary, and more than six decades of training horticultural experts who have gone on to shape many of the country’s finest gardens.
Located in Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway, and managed by the National Trust for Scotland, the Threave School is one of only a few centres of horticultural education in the UK to offer a firm grounding in both the theory and practice of gardening. Known for its thorough training, including rigorous plant identification tests, alumni now tend gardens across Scotland and beyond, working at the conservation charity’s other properties and prestigious gardens like Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Logan and Benmore, Dunvegan Castle, the Eden Project, Alnwick Garden, Windsor Great Park, Cambridge Botanic Garden, and Kew Gardens.
To commemorate this milestone, the Trust hosted a reunion event at Threave Garden on 26th July with over 150 alumni, former staff, and supporters.
