EDITOR'S WELCOME
Easier said than done, as we gardeners are an industrious lot, aren't we? Certainly in this issue of Scotland Grows magazine you will find lots of inspiration and top tips to get you out enjoying and developing your green space.
Our gardens are never really finished as they are a living thing, growing and evolving, and bringing us along with them. That's why buying plants is so appealing to gardeners - we are able to visualise where that tall, flower spire would look good, where a ground cover plant is needed, or some colour could be squeezed in to plug a gap in a border. We are able to edit our garden with suggestions in this issue from Gael Wilkinson of Kin Bees to help provide for pollinators, to tackle shady areas with advice from Katie Reynolds, or to revel in our roses with top tips from Karen Stewart-Russell.
If growing edibles is what you'd like to do more of, then Eli-Appleby-Donald shares her strawberry growing secrets, Janice Clyne offers a way to eat, instead of trying to beat, ground elder, and we've got the guide to sowing super, speedy salad leaves inside!
Nothing though is as exciting as getting out amongst plants and people at a gardening event! Scone Palace Garden Fair on 2nd and 3rd June is the most anticipated gardening event in the Scottish gardening calendar since its inception last year. We are beyond excited to see plants, flowers, and edibles from some of Scotland's specialist nurseries and plant growers, and to chat all about growing and gardening with the many groups and societies, like The Caley, Scottish Gardeners' Forum, and Trellis, who will be at the event to offer expert advice.
You'll find a note of all the exhibitors and activities inside this issue, and we do hope you will pop by and say hello to us on the Scotland Grows' stand where we'll be running a Seed Swap, and some #ConfessionsOfAScottishGardener fun, as well as some potato juggling for the little ones!
We'll have our columnists Jordan Trainer and Scott Galloway on our stand on Friday, and Neil M. White and Lynn Hill on our stand on Saturday, so you can pick their collective gardening minds to inspire you in your own gardening journey. Follow us on our socials below if you are not able to attend the event and we'll keep you up to date with all the chat!
The team at Scone Palace have worked so hard to build on this event from last year - this is a Scottish gardening event for us all to get behind, and Scotland Grows' magazine is delighted once again to support the event as the media partner.
We are indebted to Julianne Robertson for guest editing some of the content in this issue, and hope to see her back working more with us through her horticultural PR, Media, & Comms business.
Scotland Grows magazine features real Scottish gardeners, tending to Scottish gardens and allotments, and showing you what grows well in them - we hope you find lots of great ideas and information inside this issue of Scotland Grows as you garden into the sunny, summer months.
