Martha Dewey Bergren, DNS RN NCSN PHNA-BC FNASN FASHA FAAN
On September 1, 2020, Dr. Martha Dewey Bergren became the new Executive Editor for the Journal of School Nursing (JOSN). Dr. Bergren comes to this role after completing 13 years in May 2020 at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Nursing where she worked in multiple leadership positions. She served for four years as NASN’s first Director of Research and four years as Lead Faculty for the Rutgers University Johnson & Johnson School Health Leadership Program. Earlier in her nursing career, Dr. Bergren worked as a school nurse in early childhood special education and in public and private middle and high schools.
Dr. Bergren is an accomplished and prolific writer, with over 80 scholarly and clinical publications. She has published in highly respected journals in addition to the Journal of School Nursing including Public Health Nursing, Journal of Professional Nursing, Nursing Outlook, OJIN: Online Journal of Issues in Nursing, and the Journal of Community Health Nursing. Dr. Bergren authored and co-authored two guest editorials for JOSN. Her distinguished scholarly record is acknowledged by numerous awards and recognitions, including being inducted as a Fellow in the National Association of School Nurses, the American School Nurse Association and the American Academy of Nursing. This past year, she was recognized as the 2020 Penn State
Distinguished Nursing Alumna and the 2019 University at Buffalo School of Nursing Distinguished Alumna.
