Golf Season Is Here
The start of a new golf season in Idaho brings a level of excitement and renewed energy that every golfer can appreciate, no matter their skill level.
One of my favorite ways to kick off golf season is by settling in and watching some of the classic golf movies that capture the spirit of the game. There’s something about starting the year with films like Caddyshack or The Greatest Game Ever Played that makes me excited to get back out on the course. Each one, in its own way, reminds me why I enjoy the game – whether it’s the humor, the competition, or the history behind it. It’s a simple tradition, but it helps build anticipation and puts me in the right mindset before that first round of the season.
After a long offseason, stepping onto the first tee of your local course feels like a fresh start. Like the arrival of spring, it’s a reset – not just for your game, but for your mindset. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just getting started, there’s a shared feeling of being back where you want to be.
Early in the season, everyone finds their own way back into the game. For some, that means time on the driving range working through mechanics. For others, it’s simply getting out to play a few relaxed rounds and letting the feel come back naturally. Each person takes their own way back to the game. Whether you’re grinding on fundamentals or just enjoying the walk, every golfer is building toward something.
And then, the competition begins. I believe in my heart of hearts that all golfers have some sort of competition in which they compete in golf, no matter the skill level. For some, it’s tournament season – organized events, league play, and a chance to test your game against others. For others, it’s the friendly competition of a weekend round with friends, where bragging rights are just as meaningful as any trophy.
And for many, the competition is internal – trying to beat your best score, improve your Handicap Index, play a cleaner round, or simply improve a part of your game.
No matter the level, golf is – at its very core – a place of competition.
That competition brings focus and purpose. It encourages players to stay engaged, adapt, and handle pressure in whatever form it comes. At the same time, golf always brings you back to accountability. Every shot is yours. Improvement comes from being honest with yourself, learning from mistakes, and continuing to show up.
In Idaho, the start of the season adds another layer to the experience. Courses open up to mountain views, wide skies, and crisp, fresh air. Conditions change throughout the day, reminding you to stay present and adjust.
More than anything, the season is a reminder that golf is for everyone. Whether you’re chasing trophies, competing with friends, or just trying to get a little better each round, there’s a place for you – and a reason to be excited every time you step onto the course.
