Welcome to the latest edition of Casebook.
I am writing this edition while spending time with colleagues in New Zealand. I have the pleasure of learning first-hand what we are doing to best support members during a challenging time for healthcare.
We share an exclusive interview with the new Chief Medical Officer for Health NZ, Professor Dame Helen Stokes-Lampard. Helen shares her career so far and ambitions to better healthcare for clinicians in New Zealand.
With the announcement that Physician Associates (PAs) will be regulated in New Zealand, Dr Samantha King, Medicolegal Consultant at Medical Protection, discusses how to safely supervise a PA. Samantha explores lessons learnt from the introduction of PAs in the UK.
We highlight current practices as Dr Samantha King explores how telemedicine might put your career on the line.
We also share two articles from Dr Lucy Gibberd who discusses common issues around repeat prescriptions and how to handle forged patient sick certificates with care.
Some of you may have also noted a slight change to my job title here at Medical Protection, now the Medical Director and Chief Member Officer. The latter is a new role in which I am part of the Executive team, to which I bring my own clinical knowledge and member experience. The member voice has always been an integral part of Medical Protection, being owned by our members and for our members, and I’m keen to play my part in this to ensure we are always there to support members in the best way possible.
