The walk back from the 18th at Pinehurst No. 8 now ends not with a shuttle ride, but with porch light and crackling fire. Pinehurst’s first on-course accommodations – the Cottages at No. 8 – bring the Sandhills right to your doorstep, blending privacy with panoramic golf views and a slate of amenities built for groups who want their rounds to stretch into the night.
Nine multilevel cottages are tucked between the fairways, each designed for small golf groups, executive retreats, or board meetings that trade conference tables for card tables. Four-bedroom cottages (about 4,650 sq. ft.) sleep eight; eight-bedroom cottages (about 8,000 sq. ft.) sleep sixteen. Inside, common rooms center on fireplaces and pool tables; outside, wide decks and porches look onto the quiet, natural setting that defines No. 8. Communal firepits, a pavilion, and a large putting green – lit for evening matches – extend the day in the best possible way.
The centerpiece is the Centennial Cottage, a spacious ~13,950-sq.ft. residence with eight bedrooms and eleven bathrooms that comfortably hosts sixteen. It’s a purpose-built hangout: a poker lounge and billiards room for the after-dinner games, a home theater anchored by a 100-inch screen, and a full golf simulator with an indoor putting green so “one more hole” can be literal. A private firepit with seating for sixteen faces the course, where the shadows slide across the fescue and the last putts drop in the glow.
Staying at No. 8 adds thoughtful touches that make the trip feel easy. A dedicated No. 8 ambassador has carts ready and can arrange everything from a twilight loop to in-cottage chef-prepared dinners. Just a short walk aways is the clubhouse restaurant, Pl8te, with its Southern American fare, views of the 16th and 18th, broad patio, and a bar that’s quickly become a favorite for debriefing the day’s bets. The cottages’ wet bars and kitchen conveniences (ice and water dispensers, microwave, dishwasher) help groups settle in without fuss.
For Pinehurst, the cottages mark a new chapter: the resort’s first on-course lodging and its most significant accommodation addition since the 1980s. They fit neatly into a decade of investment across campus – from the restoration of No. 2 by Coore & Crenshaw and the arrival of The Cradle, to the redesign of No. 4, the refreshed Carolina Hotel and Carolina Vista Lounge, and the opening of the Titleist Shop at the Padgett Center. On the course side, the momentum continues with No. 10’s debut and No. 11 announced for 2027, aka, the “Pinehurst Sandmines,” which includes a new pro shop, locker room, and Station 21’s Southwestern grill. And, before long, cottages on site.
The cool thing about cottages is that they are as much about feel as they are about features. Morning begins with quiet light over the pines and ends with neighbors trading putts and stories under string lights. It’s Pinehurst’s familiar rhythm – great golf, good food, and easy company – now condensed into a single, immersive place. If your itinerary runs through No. 2, No. 10, No. 8, No. 4, and The Cradle, the Cottages at No. 8 make the time between tee times part of the experience, too. And for groups who measure a trip by the laughs and late-night matches as much as the scorecard, this is exactly the kind of accommodation they’ve been waiting for.
