PARTING SHOT
The cold snap that spanned late January into early February certainly made June’s U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., feel far away. However, the club’s sixth U.S. Open will be here before we know it – we’re already less than four months away from the June 18-21 championship.
The road to Shinnecock arrives even sooner, with the MGA hosting five local qualifiers for the U.S. Open between April 27 and May 11, including one right next door at Southampton Golf Club (April 28). Final qualifying then takes place at Century Country Club and The Golf Club of Purchase in Purchase, N.Y., June 8, when players will look to punch their ticket to our national open.
While Shinnecock looks good in white – with the landscape details accentuated across the William Flynn design – we’re eager to see the return of green grass and golden fescue as U.S. Open hopefuls set their sights high for this summer.
