BIG PICTURE

The MGA was proud to bring back Caddie Academies this month with eight sessions in the Met Area at returning host sites, featuring more than 450 total sign-ups. The two-hour workshops gave young men and women a basic introduction to caddieing and golf course etiquette. From what to wear on the job, to mannerisms, and all the way to handling equipment, participants were given an overview of how important a caddie is and everything it takes to excel at the job.
All sessions were stand-alone and followed an identical format. Each began with a presentation from Keckeisen about the seminar, expectations, and the benefits of working as a caddie. Following that, participants spent time out on the course walking a hole or two, getting an up-close look at the role a caddie plays in a round before, during, and after every shot. This included learning how to use equipment such as a rangefinder, proper bunker raking and bag-carrying techniques, cleaning clubs and balls, as well as repairing divots and ball marks. Several participants took a keen interest and asked follow-up questions after something was explained or demonstrated.
At the end, everyone gathered one last time for a debrief before the session concluded.
We’re thankful to our member clubs and partnering organizations for their hospitality and support in putting on this year’s Caddie Academies.
