The par-5 10th at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, Conn., the site of the 2024 Met Open presented by Callaway, is a somewhat gentle start to a difficult back nine. For long hitters, the tee shot must not travel more than 300 yards or they will encounter one of the club’s famous burns. For most golfers, the burn and pond on the right create a course management decision: go over or lay up, all very lie dependent. A large cross bunker about 90 yards short of the green is another obstacle golfers must navigate. Any golfer uncertain about carrying the cross bunker would be wise to lay up as the bunker is very deep and sight from within is limited. The front-right quadrant of the green is a false front; balls landing there will retreat to the tightly mown approach. The front-left hole location is the most challenging due to a bunker guarding that section of the green. But regardless of the hole location, the subtlety of Devereux Emmet’s greens will task any golfer with his or her green-reading ability.
