Stay up-to-date with all team and player news and notes all season long. Go 'Pigs!
LAST TIME OUT: A flurry of early offense for the IronPigs helped them down the Bisons 5-4 on Saturday night, securing at least a series split and moving them back into a tie for 1st place in the IL 2nd half standings. Jim Haley drove in two with a base hit in the second before Aramis Garcia doubled home two more in the third. Darick Hall went deep for the first time since June 28 for the IronPigs to make it 5-0. The 'Pigs pitching held on down the stretch with Ben Bowden working around a solo homer in the ninth to earn the save while Nick Nelson allowed just two runs in six innings for the win.
TODAY’S OPPONENT: Just like on Tuesday, Hayden Juenger opens the game for the Bisons. Juenger fired two no-hit innings on Tuesday to lead off that game, striking out three and walking one. He worked an inning of relief on Friday, setting the side down in order with two punchouts. This will be his third open of the season.
NO LAZY SUNDAYS: Even while relaxing at home for a Sunday, the IronPigs have taken care of business going a perfect 8-0 at home on Sun- days. The 'Pigs have also gone 20-6 in day games, including 10-2 in home day games and 11-3 in day-game-after-night games and are 6-0 in such scenarios at home.
LONG BALL HALL RETURNS: Darick Hall went deep for the first time since June 28 when he blasted a solo homer on Saturday night against Buffalo. It was his longest homerless stretch this season (14 games) and longest since last season when he went 16 games, from June 2 through June 18 before he also snapped that streak with a homer against Buffalo.
STARSKY AND HUTCH: Drew Hutchison spun an absolute gem on Thursday night, going a season high eight innings for the win. It was the first time this season an IronPigs starter had gone eight innings and the first time since Dan Straily on September 1, 2019 at Pawtucket that a 'Pigs starter went eight. For Hutchison it was the first time he'd gone eight since May 25, 2015 for the Blue Jays in throwing a CG shutout against the White Sox. MORE
THAN OK MCKAY: Tyler McKay has started off his IronPigs career with seven straight outings without an earned run, totaling 8.1 innings. He's allowed just an unearned run on five hits and four walks, striking out seven.
CHICKS DIG THE LONG BALL: The IronPigs set a new season high when they homered three times in the sixth inning of Tuesday night's game. Three homers in a single frame tied a franchise record for the IronPigs.
EVEN STEVENSON: Cal Stevenson has got his feet underneath him after a whirlwind of transactions earlier in the season (traded twice, DFA'd twice). Stevenson hit his first IronPigs homer on Sunday and then went deep again on Thursday night before leaving the yard again on Friday night. He is on an eight-game hitting streak where he's 11-for-22.
JUMPIN' JULY: July was easily the best month of the season to date for the IronPigs. The team went 15-8, their first winning month (minimum two games played) of the season, and they finished with the 2nd most wins of any team in the International League during the month as well.
KODY KRUSH: Kody Clemens failed to homer in his first 12 games of the season with the IronPigs (he did go deep four times with the Phil- lies). He finally homered for the 'Pigs on July 22 and has been on a tear since, now homering six times in his past 13 games.
THE BIGGEST OF INNINGS: The IronPigs set a new franchise record when they scored 10 runs in the third inning of last Wednesday night's game. The previous record had been eight which had happened multiple times. Oddly enough, the Buffalo Bisons also scored 10 runs in the third inning of their game on Wednesday as well.
FINALLY GRAND: The IronPigs hit their first grand slam of the season last Wednesday when Aramis Garcia belted one for his fifth homer of the season. The IronPigs were the last team in the International League to hit one. Prior to hitting their salami, the IronPigs were just one of nine teams in the entirety of the minors yet to hit a grand slam. Less than a week later, the IronPigs hit their second grand slam when Scott Kingery belted one on August 1.
THE OG AG: Aramis Garcia has gotten back to full strength following a finger injury and has been on a tear. Garcia popped the first IronPigs grand slam of the season on Wednesday night, drivnig in five runs in a four hit performance. It was Garcia's first four hit game since Augsut 17, 2019 with Sacramento where he actually had four hits back-to-back nights. Garcia is 15-for-37 in his last 11 games with four homers and 17 driven in.
DELCO JIM STRIKES AGAIN: The past 19 games have been fruitful for local product Jim Haley. He's hit .317 with three homers and 14 driven in plus 11 runs scored. He drove in a run in five consecutive games from July 14 to July 20.
WILSOOOOOOOON: With the first 20-20 season in IronPigs history in the bag, Weston Wilson now has his eyes set on the franchise single-season home run record, currently 29 set by Rhys Hoskins in 2017. Wilson sits at 25 which is third in the Minors. Wilson has nearly set career highs across the board with a third of the season remaining.
