dry-running vacuum pump
Flowserve Corp., a leading provider
of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets,
has released its SIHI® Boost UltraPLUS dry-running vacuum pump (FIG. 1). The new unit
is designed to reduce cycle times for batch processes by up to 50% or more.
According to the company, SIHI Boost
UltraPLUS vacuum pumps raise the industry standard by delivering the fastest pump-down
and cycle times available for load lock applications. The unit delivers
remarkably high performance combined with low power consumption in a small
footprint. By just changing the vacuum system, the output of existing process
equipment can potentially be doubled.
The SIHI Boost UltraPLUS vacuum pump
is the next evolution of Flowserve SIHI Boost pump systems, which were
introduced in 2013. This new and improved pump design retains all the
advantages of the original SIHI Boost pumps—including oil-free operation and full electronic
cuts re-acceleration time up to 50%. These performance enhancements were made
possible by cooling improvements, upgrading materials to withstand the highest
load scenarios and a new gap distribution strategy.
The unit can provide a compression
ratio (K0) of up to 100,000:1, which is exponentially higher than the rate of
the highest-performing Roots-type blower (maximum 75:1). A single compact SIHI
Boost UltraPLUS pump can replace two or three conventional competitor units
while eliminating the need for interstage cooling.
In addition, the SIHI Boost
UltraPLUS vacuum pump has been designed and built with all the hardware needed
to take full advantage of RedRaven, a predictive maintenance service from
Flowserve that improves plant performance by detecting anomalies in pumps,
valves and seals. No additional sensors or other devices are required.

operations, reliable and secure network access is absolutely critical. NT5000 switches (FIG. 3) and their
gigabit speed are designed to improve network security and reliability for
industrial organizations of all sizes and environments.
The NT5000 maximizes
operating performance and system uptime through seamless integration, advanced
management and diagnostic capabilities, network redundancy and layered
security, and helps organizations meet IT and OT needs for dependable
and fast network management is essential for organizations to achieve maximum
uptime. The NT5000’s simple graphical user interface includes a logical view
showing active ports, power supply, temperature and contact relay status of the
switch and color-coded gauges for port traffic and events to allow
administrators to quickly identify and address possible network disruptions in
real time, helping lower total cost of ownership.
assembled in the U.S., NT5000 switches are available in 6, 8, 10, 16 and 18
port configurations in all copper or a mix of copper and fiber options that can
meet specific installation requirements. With a durable, metal enclosure and
wide temperature range, the NT5000 is a compact solution for reliable operation
in harsh, industrial environments, including oil and gas, factory automation,
robotics, food and beverage, marine and rail.
can be a confusing and time-consuming process. The NT5000 is engineered for
fast and easy deployment right out of the box. Its modern, graphical user
interface includes a configuration wizard that walks users through initial
threats can result in severe consequences. The NT5000 features password
encryption, multilevel user access and MAC security, IEEE 802.1X with RADIUS
remote authentication and more. Administrators can view the event and syslog to
clearly see the state of the network in real time and receive notifications
about access attempts or configuration changes. The switch can be set to
automatically disable user or port credentials after failed access attempts.

Monitoring H2S in crude oil
The KECO Model 205 PermaStream H2S
in Liquids Process Analyzer (FIG. 4) offers an accurate quantification of hydrogen
sulfide (H2S) in sample streams of crude oil as part of
environmental compliance, safety and quality control practices. The inline
analyzer measures H2S in light/medium/heavy crude oil, dirty/clean
water, diesel, fuel oil and drilling fluid in real time. By providing accurate
and continuous monitoring of H2S levels in liquid streams, the
analyzer helps companies demonstrate compliance with air permits promoting the
reduction of environmental impacts.
Naturally found in crude oil, H2S
can pose a threat when inhaled due to its toxicity. Its corrosive properties
can also cause damage to storage tanks and pipelines used to transport crude
oil. In addition, crude oil with lower levels of H2S is more
valuable as it can be more readily processed into petroleum products.
Accurate quantification of H2S is
necessary for its efficient removal from crude oil. Due to its opacity and
complex structure, it cannot be visually measured. The most effective
measurement method requires stripping H2S from the liquid into gas
for analysis by an analyzer or a sensor. The Model 205 PermaStream H2S
in Liquids Process Analyzer efficiently and reliably separates H2S
from the liquid sample for measurement in the gas phase without false positives,
as it only detects H2S.
A simple device, the 205 PermaStream
continuously provides an ultra-clean and dry sample to the H2S
sensor for real-time and accurate measurement. Dependable in operation, the
analyzer requires no field calibration, sample conditioning, filters nor pumps.
Incorporating KECO Membrane Technology, the ultra-low-maintenance device
addresses the shortfalls of headspace stripping columns traditionally used for
this purpose that were problematic because of oil clumping and high maintenance
associated with replacing a multitude of parts that break down over time.
The 205 PermaStream measures the presence of H2S
in ppm or even precent ranges in complex liquid streams. Set in line at process
and flow, the H2S liquid process analyzer supports continuous online
monitoring of H2S.

Greenhouse gas emissions
KBC (A Yokogawa Company) has launched what it calls a
revolutionary emissions management solution, Visual MESA® Greenhouse Gas
Emissions Management for industrial process plants. Whether cloud-based or
onsite, this technology integrates the emissions management workflow across the entire plant to
simplify reporting and reduce Scopes 1 and 2 emissions.
Visual MESA Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management software uses real-time
emissions data to pinpoint critical operational areas that can improve the
accuracy and frequency of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) reporting. This
information enables the plant to take strategic decarbonization actions,
and achieve sustainability targets.
Industrial plants are encouraged to report their GHG emissions.
Typically, this task is done using GHG Protocol standards with quarterly or
annual averages, which can be a tedious and time-intensive process. However,
the operational sites need accurate and continuous monitoring. Real-time
monitoring of emissions throughout the plant, from raw materials to disposal,
enables operators to identify gaps and take immediate action to meet emissions
The KBC Visual
MESA Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management software monitors emissions and energy
consumption from plant operations using digital data sources. With the
technology’s advanced features, the software provides actionable
recommendations to decrease energy and emissions while automating the official
emissions reporting. Key capabilities of the GHG emissions management software
Visual MESA Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management software effectively
monitors, manages, analyzes and visualizes Scopes 1 and 2 emissions data in
real time across the entire plant. Whether cloud-based or onsite, this advanced
technology solution is designed to provide swift and accurate decision-making
on critical areas affecting emissions.
