Gulf Energy Information’s Global Energy Infrastructure (GEI) database is tracking more than 1,400 active H2 projects globally. Nearly half of active H2 projects are in Western Europe—the region’s active project market share was 47% at the time of this publication. Nearly all Western European countries are investing in new H2 production, infrastructure and fueling (e.g., road transport, marine shipping) to mitigate emissions and help reach net-zero ambitions.
At the time of this publication, the GEI database was tracking nearly 670 active H2 projects in Western Europe. Nearly 90% of the region’s H2 projects are through green H2 production pathways (i.e., renewable energy), while blue H2 production represents nearly all the remaining market share percentage—other production routes (e.g., yellow, turquoise, gray) account for approximately 1% of active H2 project market share.
When broken down by status, 75% of active H2 projects are still in the planning/proposal stage, followed by 13% in the feasibility study phase. H2T
