The Community Engagement department is dedicated to providing a service that fosters relationships and creates trust with the community. A Spanish outreach initiative was formed after a team building meeting identified a current and ongoing need to reach out to our Spanish-speaking community. A podcast team was formed which includes Veronica Dyson, district translator; Erika Foster, Education Foundation director; and Mima Trujillo; multi-media design specialist. Other Spanish Outreach Initiative team members are Kristyn Cathey, Director of Communications; Maria Cervantes, Education Foundation secretary, and Carrie Pryor-Newman, multi-media production specialist.
Conversaciones Gigantes was created to reach the Spanish speaking community and student population which makes up 65 percent of enrollment. The podcast features district topics of interest in their native language, such as Bilingual vs. Dual Language, Pre-K enrollment, GCCISD Education Foundation, graduation, community events and more. Furthermore, it allows for greater accessibility to important Goose Creek CISD information, news, and resources. Episodes have featured student guests, community members, foundation board members, district administrators and staff.
The podcast serves as a valuable tool for reaching a diverse audience.
Goose Creek CISD values all cultures. All topics are geared with students in mind. If you have a suggestion on a specific topic you would like to learn about or would like to be a guest on the Conversaciones Gigantes podcast, please call Maria Cervantes at 281-707-3830.
