Callaway has rebooted its 10-year-old Apex iron line with the Ai200, Ai300 and Ti Fusion, its “most complete” generation of forged player, game-improvement and ultra-premium sticks focused on enhanced look, feel, performance and consistency.
“We wanted to be fully forged to give players the best feel, but not make any sacrifices on distance or performance,” said Brian Williams, vice president of Callaway R&D.
Apex Ai200 is Callaway’s players distance iron, featuring a forged hollow-body design blending performance and precision and a Forged 455 Face Cup to create tour-level sound and feel, along with speed across the face. Its sleeker blade look features a shorter length, thinner topline and narrower sole.
Apex Ai300 is a forged game-improvement iron using a cavity-back design blending performance and forgiveness with a slightly larger profile, a more offset, thicker topline and wider sole than the Ai200.
The Ai200 and Ai300 (each $1,400 for a standard seven-piece set; $200 per stick) use a Forged 455 Face Cup to create tour-level sound and feel along with speed across the face. AI smart-face tech using real golfer swing data helps generate speed, spin consistency and tight dispersion.
Additionally, both irons promote optimized flight and forgiveness using strategically positioned weights to ensure the optimal center of gravity and a sole design for more forgiving turf interaction.
The Apex line hits a new level with the ultra-premium Apex Ti Fusion, which Callaway calls its “most advanced iron.” It offers the performance of a two-piece iron with muscleback-like consistency – and a cool but durable black finish.
Zack Oakley, Callaway’s senior product manager, calls Ti Fusion a “concept iron.”
“This iron is unlike anything we’ve ever put out or anyone’s ever put out,” Oakley said. “It’s a true industry first. … It’s for performance enthusiasts who want all the bells and whistles, the fancy components.”
Apex Ti Fusion irons ($2,100 for a standard seven-piece set; $300 per stick) feature an industry-first forged titanium face brazed to a forged steel body that promotes faster ball speeds and capitalizes on the power of titanium with the exceptional feel of steel. It creates more deflection than steel, with more urethane microsphere interaction and a larger sweet spot.
