Hampshire’s Stuart Archibald won the Logan Trophy (the English Mid-Amateur Open Championship) for a second time in four years at Rockcliffe Hall in Darlington, England. The Test Valley golfer carded rounds of 73-72-69 for a 3-under-par total, good enough for a five-shot victory over Chester-le-Street’s Kevin Suggett.
Difficult conditions contributed to the scoring with the first two rounds played in 40 mph wind and the final round was disrupted by heavy showers. Archibald held his nerve throughout and birdies at 12, 15 and 17 in the final round sealed the victory.
“To play in any England Golf championship is an honour and I’m delighted to win another trophy,” he said. “The wind was really tough on the first two days. I think everyone struggled, it created some challenges with putting and also keeping the ball in play.
“I’d like to dedicate this win to my partner, Ashley, and daughter, Sofia – we’re expecting another child in December – so whether I play next year will depend on whether I’m allowed to leave the house after that.”
