Oh! How I crave precision in sandwich making (“Divot: The perfect club,” March 24, GGP). Perfect recipe. Except: poke the jelly/seeds out of the tomato slice first and then drain it on paper towel. I hate drops of tomato juice on my shirt when I bite because I hate having to lean over my plate like a child is ordered to do, but never does.

Your club sandwich sounds excellent (“Divot: The perfect club,” March 24, GGP), except it’s surely missing one vital ingredient … slices of hard-boiled egg.
Sorry but it’s never a proper club sandwich without the egg.

Very interesting to read about your thoughts on the club sandwich (“Divot: The perfect club,” March 24, GGP). However, I fear you stimulate the notion of uniformity.
The sandwich was created in the UK and I think it is admirable that many, many clubs are proud of their own version. Most are very tasty and to be savoured – the variations are part of the rich tapestry of club foods.

The problem with the club sandwich (“Divot: The perfect club,” March 24, GGP) is … it’s not kosher! Sorry.

I’m a Willow Oaks CC member and agree that the club sandwiches here are hard to beat. I enjoyed your story and seeing your reverse-engineered recipe (“Divot: The perfect club,” March 24, GGP).

As a regular reader of your publication, I found the article on Ireland (“Birdies and soul,” March 24, GGP) inappropriate for British consumption. It gave one standpoint, it did not give any perspective to the hundreds and perhaps thousands of lives lost and ruined by “The Troubles,” to the servicemen and women who gave their lives and limbs, and the public who suffered numerous bomb atrocities and lived with the shadow of IRA terrorism for many years.
I had a wonderful holiday tour of Ireland in 2023 and four of my grandchildren are half Irish. I have great respect for the island and many of my friends are Irish, but your author managed to estrange the United Kingdom with his article and such a one-eyed view.
