I cannot think of a better payday than to represent your country, for the honor of giving back (“Next blow to golf’s altruism: Pay Ryder Cup players?” November 3 GGP).
The USA gives these players the opportunity to make enormous sums of money. Their greed is becoming unbearable. They are playing a great game very well. They are not curing cancer.
It would be nice if the money they are given for the charity of their choice would be matched by the player, out of his own pocket.
That is probably expecting too much.
Have all the players turned into Gordon Gekkos?

We went to The European Club when it was just open (“Ruddy puts a price on his Irish masterpiece,” November 3 GGP).
Pat Ruddy met us in a gravel car park. We were about to leave, not thinking the course would be much. He turned us ’round. We were embarrassed and played. Finest course and day I can recall.
Thanks, Pat, for your intervention.
