In addition to mass-producing the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls that have proven so popular with tour professionals, elite amateurs and recreational players, Titleist also offers on occasion a CPO version of the product, which stands for Custom Performance Option. These models are USGA-conforming and designed to offer specific flight, spin and feel variations compared to standard Pro V1s and Pro V1xs. Typically, the company produces them in very limited quantities and only for use on professional tours.
But every now and then Titleist offers a CPO to the general public, and the latest of those is the Pro V1 Left Dot, which became available last week for a limited run at select golf shops and through the company’s website.
The Left Dot is made for players with the unique launch conditions of high initial launch and high spin, and thus are looking for lower flight and lower spin tee through green. Titleist technicians say it is the lowest flying Titleist Pro V1.
They also point out that Left Dot is the fifth-most-played golf ball on the PGA Tour this year, behind the 2021 Pro V1 and Pro V1x and the 2019 versions of those same two golf balls. Among those using Left Dot these days is Tony Finau, winner of the 2021 Northern Trust. With that triumph, he became the 24th golfer to win on the PGA Tour with the Left Dot CPO.
“The original innovations that led to Pro V1 Left Dot also contributed to core technology advances in the last three generations of Pro V1, providing continued evidence that the CPO program provides valuable insights and education for our … teams,” said Jeremy Stone, vice president for Titleist golf ball marketing. “Its continued usage on tour as well as the success of previous CPO Pro V1 x Left Dash in the marketplace encourages us to test this golf ball (Pro V1 Left Dot) with dedicated golfers for them to evaluate and provide important feedback.”
