The newest player in the golf footwear category is Payntr Golf. Founded by David Paynter, a former professional cricketer who created the Payntr athletic footwear company in the U.K., and Mike Forsey, who has developed golf shoes in the States previously for Nike, FootJoy and Under Armour, the company recently released its first product – the Payntr X 001 F. Forsey led the technology team that developed the brand’s debut product, and his goal was “to fuse together a series of contrasting elements to allow golfers to optimize and make efficient use of the power in their swings.”
“Payntr is giving golfers a traction advantage,” Forsey suggests. “The shoe amplifies the golfer’s ability to use the ground as leverage and generate more power to the ball. We see the golf shoe as golf equipment. Just as ball and clubhead speed are critical to performance, so is harnessing the power from the ground up in our feet.
“If you think about it, your foot and your shoe are the only things that are in contact with the ground. So, your shoe has to give you support, energy return and comfort while also being lightweight and waterproof. We believe we have achieved all of these in the X 001 F.”
Perhaps the most impressive bit of technology in this product is its Performance Enhancing Traction System. It features a lightweight TPU outsole designed with nubs in the medial forefoot and lateral heel to prevent rotational slippage. In addition, a Dual Durometer midsole handles horizontal weight shift and helps keep the foot on the ground as long as possible through the swing. And a Responsive Graphite Power Plate/Midsole Cavity is employed so golfers can better harness power from ground reaction forces as they hit their shots.
The shoe is waterproof, thanks to being treated with a solution called NeverWet, and offered in three color options: classic white, cool gray and anthracite black, which features a woven jacquard upper. And it is being offered to consumers at www.payntrgolf.com and www.payntrgolf.eu.
