The newest generation of Hyperflex shoes from FootJoy is perhaps most notable for a midsole/outsole combination that features two new technologies. But a groundbreaking fitting system that employs tried and true Boa technology also has this series turning heads.
First, the midsole/outsole combo. Proprietary StratoFoam cushioning is used in the midsole to absorb shock, enhance comfort and maximize what company officials call “energy return” to reduce foot fatigue. And an OptiFlex outsole employs dual “flex grooves” that are designed to flex naturally with a player’s foot (for comfort) and a thin, semi-rigid TPU flex plate that is included to promote “multidirectional flexure and traction.”
In addition to being offered in a traditional laced version, Hyperflex shoes also are sold with something called the WRAPID Boa Fit System. This technology possesses an asymmetrical configuration of Tx4 laces and FormTX guides that are made to ensure a precise fit through use of an L6 dial on the back of the shoe above the heel.
“When you take the first steps in Hyperflex, you’ll notice that the shoe moves in unison with the foot,” explained Chris Tobias, vice president of FJ Footwear. “This new outsole technology is designed to mimic the natural flexure of the foot, so not only are you getting a great walking shoe but also a shoe that will maximize the ground force throughout every movement in the golf swing.”
Several tour professionals have made the switch to the new Hyperflex model, among them Spaniard Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Bernd Wiesberger of Austria.
“They look and feel so athletic,” said Cabrera-Bello. “Super comfortable the moment you put them on.”
Wiesberger is just as enthusiastic. “It’s a great looking shoe that you can just slip into,” he added. “You get that great stability without sacrificing comfort.”
